Embodied Fragmentation II
Inspired by collage, my Pakistani upbringing, and childhood memories of home, this series of paintings on plexiglass depicts contorted, vulnerable, and disengaged bodies floating in space. These bodies and the shadows they cast allude to fragmented identities, and to the multiplicity of an identity resulting from gender-biased cultural expectations. This series challenges these expectations, seeking to celebrate and empower women who struggle to reclaim identity.
