This series explores the relationship between culture and identity through the metaphor of water. In the ongoing struggle for identity within the context of my upbringing, the froth in the water symbolizes an unwanted layer of cultural expectations and values that suppress my individuality. The water prevents me from living the life I want to live.
Living life on one’s own terms and staying true to oneself when faced with barriers, such as those the water represents, requires immense courage. It is a constant struggle in which we sometimes find ourselves closer to who we want to be, while at other times, further away.
